Don't miss a visit to see Tennessee’s magical caves
The caves of Tennessee are a lesser-known treasure just waiting to be explored. With over 11,000 caves, the state has approximately a quarter of the known caves in the entire United States, and although 90% of them are on private land, there are plenty you can check out — and within them, you’ll find lots of life, like bats, salamanders, and cave fish, as well as cultural treasures such as petroglyphs, footprints, and fragments of torches.
Some of the most magical caves are fairly close to Nashville, so if you’re planning a trip, consider visiting Dunbar Cave State Park, Bell Witch Caves, The Caverns, Nickajack Cave Wildlife Refuge, Racoon Mountain Caverns, Ruby Falls, Craighead Caverns and the Lost Sea, Tuckaleechee Caverns, and Forbidden Caverns.
